David Dragonfly – Blackfeet – Assiniboine Artist

David Dragonfly
David at the Smithsonian in 2019

David Dragonfly resides in Browning Montana. David attended the Institute of American Indian Art in Santa Fe, New Mexico where he learned to make jewelry and carve stone. David also studied at the University of Montana in Missoula where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting.

The main influences for Dragonfly’s printmaking are his Blackfeet and Assiniboine native cultures and the beautiful landscapes of the Blackfeet Reservation and the state of Montana. His time spent with Professors Don Bunse and Jim Todd inspired him further. His style and images appeal to the viewer and are said to be reminiscent of the Plains Indian pictographic art found in Montana and Canada, a style with very clean lines and broad, strong colors.
